Today we ran through the work we need to do for the clangers part 1. This is my analysis of On the Run
This song has no natural acoustic environment, I think this because it sounds like a synthesiser which would mean all of the sounds were electronically created. This gives the song an electronic environment. Most of the music in this song sits in a lower range of the sound spectrum with most of the arpeggiated synth sounds being bass heavy. On top of these bassy synth sounds are more high frequency sound effects which sound like voices, guitar effects and more synths as well as an electronic hi hat playing a shuffle rhythm. The quick pace of the arpeggiator makes me think of quick movement, and the panning effects make the movement feel real, like a siren moving fast at a quick speed. I think the artist has done this intentionally to fit in with a wider atmospheric piece, and I think it works well by making the listener feel disorientated and like they are sitting in the centre of the piece while everything is moving around them. Contrasts in the song appear when the synth arpeggiator is manipulated with changes in the oscillation and EQ of the synth. This, paired with the panning, is very effective at creating an unsteady atmosphere.
